Ecommerce Analytics Tools Worth Setting Up Beyond the Default Dashboard
The analytics tools worth adding once Shopify's and each marketplace's built-in dashboard stop being enough to see real profit by channel and SKU.
Shopify's dashboard and every marketplace's seller panel give you a number for sales and orders. What they rarely give you cleanly is true profit after ad spend, packaging, returns and marketplace fees, or a single view across every channel you sell on. These tools fill that specific gap.
Google Analytics 4
Still the free baseline for understanding on-site traffic and behavior on your own Shopify store. GA4's event-based model has a real learning curve compared to the old Universal Analytics, and ecommerce-specific reporting needs to be configured deliberately, it is not automatic out of the box.
Triple Whale
Built specifically for D2C brands to pull ad spend, revenue and profit into one dashboard across Shopify and ad platforms. The value is in seeing true profitability after costs, not just revenue, though the pricing tiers scale with your order volume so it is worth checking the cost at your actual scale before committing.
Lifetimely
Focused narrowly on customer lifetime value and cohort analysis, useful once you want to know whether a marketing channel is bringing back repeat buyers or one-time discount shoppers. Less useful as a general dashboard, strong at the one thing it does.
Marketplace seller dashboards (Amazon Seller Central, Flipkart Seller Hub, Myntra Partner Portal)
Each marketplace's own panel is still the most accurate source for that channel's specific fees, returns and settlement data. No third-party tool fully replaces reading these directly, they are best treated as the source of truth that a broader tool like Triple Whale pulls from.

Where to start
If you have not set up GA4 properly on your Shopify store yet, that is the first fix, it is free and most of the paid tools above assume clean underlying data anyway. Once you are selling across two or more channels and want a single profit view, that is the point where a paid cross-channel tool starts earning its cost.
