What each field means

Amount
The value you're starting from - either the base amount (if adding GST) or the GST-inclusive total (if removing it).
GST Rate
The applicable slab for what you're selling. Footwear priced up to ₹2,500 per pair is taxed at 5%; above ₹2,500 it's 18% - this threshold moved up from ₹1,000 following the 56th GST Council meeting, effective September 22, 2025.
Add / Remove GST
Add GST calculates tax on top of a base price. Remove GST works backward from a GST-inclusive (MRP-style) amount to find the base price and tax component.

How to use the GST Calculator

  1. Choose Add GST if your amount is the pre-tax base price, or Remove GST if your amount already includes GST (like an MRP).
  2. Enter the amount and select the applicable GST rate.
  3. Read off the base amount, GST amount, and the CGST/SGST split for an intra-state sale (or use the IGST figure for an inter-state sale).

The formula

CalculationAdd GST: Total = Amount × (1 + Rate%). Remove GST: Base = Amount ÷ (1 + Rate%)

Frequently asked questions

What is the GST rate on footwear in India?

As of September 22, 2025, footwear priced up to ₹2,500 per pair is taxed at 5% GST; footwear priced above ₹2,500 per pair is taxed at 18%. This replaced the earlier ₹1,000 threshold.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

For a sale within the same state, GST splits equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state) - each half the total rate. For a sale between two different states, the full amount is charged as IGST (integrated GST) instead.

Is GST charged on the discounted price or the MRP?

GST is charged on the actual transaction value - the price after any discount - not the original MRP, as long as the discount is shown on the invoice.

Do I need to register for GST to sell on Amazon or Flipkart?

Yes - GST registration is mandatory to sell on Indian marketplaces regardless of turnover, unlike the general GST registration threshold that applies to offline businesses.

Can I add other business costs to this calculator?

No - this tool calculates GST only, not overall profit, so there is no Other Costs field here. Costs and margins belong in the Profit, Pricing, or marketplace fee calculators, each of which has its own Other Costs field for exactly that.
